The Xbox 360 does play .avi files, but they have to be encoded in MPEG-4 format for them to play. (Note: .avi files are simply containers for a whole multitude of different formats).

listen last week i tried to play my xbox i just bought spiderman and the game kept freezing so i took the game out and since then all i have been getting were the red rings what should i do i dont have any warrenty papers or reciets i am panicing will i ever get to play my xbox again if you can help me please tell me this is really urgentbroken xbox no warrenty

well, ive got the wireless one, its good, worth the money imo, only qualms i have with it is sometimes (if your not aware of the bettery ammount left) it can begin to die when your in the middle of a game (it beeps when there is 30min remaining, and than again at 5 min) also, charging can take awhile, depending on the circomstances. but hey, i like it, and it suits me fine, you just need to remember to charge it, adn your set. in realtion to third party headsets, ive got no ideaRecommend me a new headslet. ;)

Marketplace points are a sort of prepaid currency that you buy, activate, use to buy downloadable content like movies, picture packs, extra content in games. I dont have xbox live at the moment, so is there any other way i can download the update. I heard something about downloading the update from xbox.com and putting it on to a disc but i couldnt find it on the site.Help Updating without xbox live

My PC can download a 70mb file in less than 45 seconds at 733 kps (sometimes higher than 850 kps) and it%26#39;s using the same exact internet connection as my 360. You can feel the car, the understeer, oversteer, when the wheels are losing traction, the bumps etc etc, driving with a controller just isn%26#39;t the same...steering wheel + forza 2
I got the Mad Catz racing wheel really really cheap on eBay but I%26#39;m selling it, it is just too loose on racing games.
The wheel is awesome for this game! Using it with my homemade racing desk, rocker gaming chair with a Buttkicker gamer, oh yea it rocks!

I%26#39;m not sure where everyone else stands on this issue but I%26#39;m totally satisfied with they way FASA handled the pre-release commotion that is usually found in the gaming industry. Often times games are give a specific release date the moment they are revealed to the public. This practice is being cut back some... but there are still delays aplenty. With a game such as Shadowrun, it wasn%26#39;t announced until it was in a semi-complete state (for a lack of better words, basically it was up and running and needed the kinks ironed out).

Co-Op Based Games.
I see a couple very interesting games being built around Co-Op Gameplay, Kane %26 Lynch + Army Of Two, do you think these games will be made so that you can play through them via Splitscreen? From what i have seen, the black controller looks cool but i prefer the normal controller. However, i haven%26#39;t seen one in %26#39;real life%26#39; so until i do, i can%26#39;t really fairly judge it.
The black controller is better than the white one! It actually looks pretty cool with a white 360.The bumpers are quiter and easier to press (no question on this - this is totally true).The overall controller and the Xbox Home button in the middle appear smaller (this may just be phychological because black makes things look smaller, but I swear it is smaller overall (and more confortable because of this) and the the middle button is smaller (this doesn%26#39;t make a big difference)).

It actually looks pretty cool with a white 360.The bumpers are quiter and easier to press (no question on this - this is totally true).The overall controller and the Xbox Home button in the middle appear smaller (this may just be phychological because black makes things look smaller, but I swear it is smaller overall (and more confortable because of this) and the the middle button is smaller (this doesn%26#39;t make a big difference)).

I don't prefer either, they're both nice to me. The thing with the black is that the the colour of the controller contrasts too much to the colour of the buttons but it is cool still.
I love blue, Always had a blue xbox controller (That I still have). So now I want a blue 360 controller, but back on forum topic yes I do think the black looks pretty nice.

IP Address Problem?
I cannot connect to live. The troubleshooting test keeps failing on IP Address. I have my 360 wired to a Linksys router which I have never had a problem with. My laptops still work wirelessly so I figured that the ports may have shorted because we%26#39;ve had some tornados and lightning and what not recently and figured that had something to do with it.
I%26#39;ve tried bypassing the router and plugging directly into the console and it works fine; downloaded the new updated even. So, I buy myself a new router and it still fails on the IP Address. My network is not secured and I have not changed any settings on my console or my router. Any other suggestions on what may be the problem?IP Address Problem?

Is the router set to be a gateway? I believe that%26#39;s the way it has to be set to get out to the internet.Do you have MAC filtering enabled? You%26#39;ll have to add the 360 to the list if you do.
You can also reset you Modem by unpluging the power and everything should reset it happens from time to time. It just needs to refresh the IP

If your laptop connects and is attepted to be given the same IP as youe 360, then you have conflicting numbers. After you reset the router by unplugging it, you might want to find out how you can increase the number of IP addresses your router hands out.

Anybody Else Not Getting Forza 2?
Don%26#39;t get me wrong Forza 2 is an amazing game! I downloaded the demo, played it, and I was amazed on how much detail was put into it. I remember being at the starting line, reving up my engine, then off I went, but then there was that first turn. I crashed onto the wall and a hand full of parts came off my car, and it looked beautiful when it did. The last racing game I played were PGR and Burnout for the 360 and these racing games are more arcade-like. Forza 2 is not a joke, it%26#39;s as real as it gets, but I guess it%26#39;s too real for me. I lean more towards arcade-like racing games like Burnout. I played the GT demo for my PS3, but it has nothing on Forza 2. I know the hardcore racing fans will definately love this game and I hope they%26#39;ll enjoy it. I%26#39;ll be saving that $60 for another game. But I%26#39;ll surely rent it or even wait and get a used one. The sheer amount of options is impressive and if you spend a little time working on your car, you can give it that arcade feel.

I%26#39;m certainly not buying it at launch, I%26#39;ll pick it up later when it is a whole lot cheaper. Only because I got Forza 1 at launch back in the day and lost interest quickly, went back to PGR2 and never looked back.
I believe I will be getting this game, my only problem with it was the reflections on the cars look horrible. I have been waiting for a good sim racer for awhile and I believe this will be it.
I have never gotten into Simulation Racing games. I was about 13 when the original Gran Turismo came out, I didnt have a job and saved up for a looong time to get that game. I never liked it, and luckily my birthday followed soon and I got Metal Gear Solid...have never turned back.I dont know, I just never got into the whole *doing stupid tests to get licenses, BEFORE i could actually race* I wont knock the game, or the genre, I just havent attempted it since Gran Turismo. I never played Forza, but I am intriged and will (for the first time in a while) rent this game and give the genre another try.But with new maps for Gears of War, a list of other games sitting on my shelf (Lost Planet, Rainbow Six:Vegas, G.R.A.W. 2, MLB2k7) I dont think I will be buying this. However I am REALLY looking forward to Shadowrun, Mass Effect and Blue Dragon.

I kinda got a weak feeling for this game. I would say that would be a false opinion because I feel the Forza demo was very limited and I do understand why. My opinion, gonna have to get the full version so I actually can enjoy the upgrades, more tracks, cars, and and the finer things of the game. I enjoy all racing games but I feel the Forza Demo could have been a bit better and demostrated some of its fruits. Demo reminded me of same feeling I had playing the Crackdown demo after that experience wanted no part of the game but all my friends insisted give it a chance, so I bought Crackdown. I enjoyed the short game but had a blast looking for orbs. I may have to wait on this game. I don't like Racing games because too me there isn't much to it. You race around and that is basically it. I won't get it.
the thing i know for sure is that im never going to buy an nfs series game anymore, there where some good games in it, but now its all burnout arcade, i dont like it. I%26#39;m still playing forza 1 even on my xbox360 even more then other games ( motogp 06, saints row wwe vs. raw pgr 3 i keep on returning to forza)
I%26#39;m certainly not buying it at launch, I%26#39;ll pick it up later when it is a whole lot cheaper. Only because I got Forza 1 at launch back in the day and lost interest quickly, went back to PGR2 and never looked back.
I believe I will be getting this game, my only problem with it was the reflections on the cars look horrible. I have been waiting for a good sim racer for awhile and I believe this will be it.
I have never gotten into Simulation Racing games. I was about 13 when the original Gran Turismo came out, I didnt have a job and saved up for a looong time to get that game. I never liked it, and luckily my birthday followed soon and I got Metal Gear Solid...have never turned back.I dont know, I just never got into the whole *doing stupid tests to get licenses, BEFORE i could actually race* I wont knock the game, or the genre, I just havent attempted it since Gran Turismo. I never played Forza, but I am intriged and will (for the first time in a while) rent this game and give the genre another try.But with new maps for Gears of War, a list of other games sitting on my shelf (Lost Planet, Rainbow Six:Vegas, G.R.A.W. 2, MLB2k7) I dont think I will be buying this. However I am REALLY looking forward to Shadowrun, Mass Effect and Blue Dragon.

I kinda got a weak feeling for this game. I would say that would be a false opinion because I feel the Forza demo was very limited and I do understand why. My opinion, gonna have to get the full version so I actually can enjoy the upgrades, more tracks, cars, and and the finer things of the game. I enjoy all racing games but I feel the Forza Demo could have been a bit better and demostrated some of its fruits. Demo reminded me of same feeling I had playing the Crackdown demo after that experience wanted no part of the game but all my friends insisted give it a chance, so I bought Crackdown. I enjoyed the short game but had a blast looking for orbs. I may have to wait on this game. Guys, My 360 has is having some problems.A couple of days back, when i turned on my 360 it had the red ring of death. I immediately turned off my console and turned on and it started working fine. Yesterday again my 360 started playing hangman while booting and after some time, it got the red rings and bam!!!, my 360 turned off.I unpluuged all the switched and turned it on again, but it dint have any red rings but it started hanging.I have not got the red rings again, but it hangs sometime.I have the best buy 2 year replacement warranty. Please tell me what do i need to do??? , will best buy replace my 360 or just try to fix it and send me a new one....so please help me guys!!! My 360 tanked on me...HELP!!!!

They should replace it I think, not sure if they repair consoles themselves or not. I did a web search on this subject for you and Best Buy will replace it for you as many times as you need within your warranty.
Take it to BB or call 18004myxbox.
A simple telephone call should answer this question.

You should know though that if its out of microsofts 1 year manufacturers warranty if you do replace it you%26#39;ll no longer have the warranty. It%26#39;s a one time thing after the 1 year manufacturers warranty, although they will allow you to buy a new 2 year replacement plan.
best buy and most other electronic stores will replace your console with a brand new one on the spot. So dont worry about getting a refurbished one.

i sold mine. well i sold the peripherals hard drive everything ceot for the console itself and sold all the games. I bought a ps3 for the simple fact that i dont have time to be replacing my xbox over and over its annoying. i figure ill just get an elite when they start producing the smaller chips. but if u have a warranty by all means just get it fixed

I%26#39;ve found the Live connection to be fairly robust. I had trouble with my cable internet in the past. I had a router that split the signal to my 360 and my computer. Neither worked. I troubleshooted with the cable people and they assured me nothing was wrong from their end. Turns out the router was the problem. I%26#39;d check that first - and I had a good one - a Linksys.

I have that problem sometimes as well. I just unplug the wireless adaptor and plug it back in, this seems to work. Hope you get it working again :)

Reference levels on new update
I was informed that the expanded view darkens the screen for the better on vga cable. I was just wondering if this still applies if your 360 is connected by way of pc input on an hdtvReference levels on new update
Yeah thats what the update is for. The Pc input on a hdtv is made for a pc signal but the xbox(until now) did%26#39;nt have the same signal as a pc. But with this update they made so you can change the referens level to make it a pc signal.Reference levels on new update

Yeah thats what the update is for. The Pc input on a hdtv is made for a pc signal but the xbox(until now) did%26#39;nt have the same signal as a pc. But with this update they made so you can change the referens level to make it a pc signal.Reference levels on new update

what about a DS lite?But if you insist on 360 games, i would think kameo or viva piniata would be fine. They both have great presentation, very colourful and fun. As far as which to get her, i guess that depends on what type of games she likes. Kameo is more of an adventure game with fantastic sceneries and music but whose controls can feel kind of frustrating sometimes, while viva piniata seems to suit people who like the sims(or similar games) very well.

I have never played Forza but really love great racing simulations and have read it is very much a simulation not arcade like compared to the PGR franchise. Always loved Gran Turismo in the PS days and PGR2 was the last time I bought a more realistic racing game but am really looking forward to the demo to make the judgement if the gameplay is the real deal especially looking forward to the damage because competitors will think twice before they cut you off the road or hit you.

Since the announcement of Forza 2, I have been playing Forza Motorsport (original) on my 360, religously. Its fun, the AI can be difficult at times, no two races are the same, realistic, car damage, tonnes of vehicles to chose from, I could go on and on listing great things about the original. Usually when a developer did good with the first release and have plans on releasing a sequel, the second will mostly likely be better.
I am a huge racing fan, whether it be watching stuff on TV or playing racing games. I looking so forward to this title, and anxious for its debut. It will blow the competition (Gran Turismo / PGR...etc) away.

Looks as though, they were wrong about the release date of the demo. The demo was released early in the morning today. I have played it. Absolutley amazed, can%26#39;t wait for the full version. C%26#39;mon May 29th!

sorry, monday at the earliest. che is the community manager and main spoksman for the game. he said it will not be out friday, that that was a rumor started by a typo in a sweedish xbox.com email. the 4th was suposed to be for spiderman but they put it in the wrong spot, under the forza article.Forza 2 demo tomorrow?
I have never played Forza but really love great racing simulations and have read it is very much a simulation not arcade like compared to the PGR franchise. Always loved Gran Turismo in the PS days and PGR2 was the last time I bought a more realistic racing game but am really looking forward to the demo to make the judgement if the gameplay is the real deal especially looking forward to the damage because competitors will think twice before they cut you off the road or hit you.

Since the announcement of Forza 2, I have been playing Forza Motorsport (original) on my 360, religously. Its fun, the AI can be difficult at times, no two races are the same, realistic, car damage, tonnes of vehicles to chose from, I could go on and on listing great things about the original. Usually when a developer did good with the first release and have plans on releasing a sequel, the second will mostly likely be better.
I am a huge racing fan, whether it be watching stuff on TV or playing racing games. I looking so forward to this title, and anxious for its debut. It will blow the competition (Gran Turismo / PGR...etc) away.

1)- Tracks (rendered from real track itself, Road America, Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta, New york, Tokyo, Nurburgring Germany...etc

Won't Download
I was downloading some demos and T.V. shows earlier and some of the T.V shows (that I purchased) wont download.Everytime I try to download them again after a few seconds a message pops up and says it can%26#39;t be downloaded. Half of the stuff I was downloading did completely download though.Anyone know what the problem is and how i can fix it?Won't Download

who has the MS racing wheel?
with forza 2 about to come out i really want to buy the racing wheel for that game. for those of u that have it, how do u like it. i want to get it but its really expensive. does anyone know if u can find used ones anywhere. also, does anyone have one of the other brands racing wheels? ive seen the logitech one on the internet and its like $60 cheaper. i wonder if the MS wheel is any better. any help that u can provide please do. im eagerly awaiting this game, it looks awesome, still need to download the demo later today. thanks in advancewho has the MS racing wheel?
STS,My wife bought me the wheel 4 a xmas gift. I dont really know much about the other ones but can give u an overview on the xbox version. 1st i think its worth the money. Very solid build. It also has force feedback steering which really adds to the realism. I have only used it with PGR. it is wireless to the console but you do need to plug it into the wall to get the force feedback to work (if u dont care about that it will run on i think 2 or 4 AA batteries. the pedals are also tethered to the wheel by a rj or something cable. Overall I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. i really wish it had a manual shifter option then it would be just like driving. Do not buy the XBLA version of Double Dragon you will regret it. Sometimes it seems as though the framerate actually drops and it seems as though your hits do not register on your enemies all the time. Double Dragon suks!!!

The game is exactly like it was in the arcades. Love this game still. You new guys whos first system was the PS2 or Xbox can%26#39;t understand the fun of the older games because ya%26#39;ll are use to 3D and pretty graphics. My son is six and i%26#39;m letting him play my old NES and Sega Genesis. The game is pretty cool.

Lame Fios Connection Question
So, the only console I%26#39;ve ever been online with is my Wii. That%26#39;s as easy as plugging a Wi-Fi port into the back of my PC and I%26#39;m there. I want to be able to connect my 360 as soon as I get it and, thus, my lame question. I have Verizon Fios. If any of you do too, is it just as simple as plugging the cable that comes with the console into my fios router? I%26#39;m a babe in the woods on this one.

Ok, so I got the update, and right away i cheched out the messanger thing. I signed up and then I went to my frineds list. At the bottom it said press Y to Show contacts. I wasnt really sure what this was at frst so I pressed it. Then my 360 frooze up and these 3 red rings came up on my actual 360. I wasnt sure what it was so I turned off the 360 and unplugged the cords. When I turned it on again it was fine. But after playing for another 30 minutes my 360 froze up 3 times. Each time it would restart then work for about 5-10 minutes. So does anyone know what the problem is? My 360? The update? and has anyone else had these problems?Issues with the update?!?!

I got the 3 red dots again, so i unplugged all my cords, then put them back in. Its been fine for about 15 minutes now. So has anyone else had these same problems before?

There are people in this forum saying not to download the dashboard update because of some supposed problems. How the hell are you going to do that? Not go online ever again?

The update is fine. Your 360 is broke. Jump-In..... to your warranty and get a new 360. If it stopped working after the update it most likely means your 360 was destined to fail soon enough. You could blame it on Gears to but like I said your Xbox is just busted. Hope your lucky and get good customer service. I myself use the best buy 2 year plan. I just take it in and get a new one if mine breaks. I had a launch system that died at 13 months( for reference that was the time they enacted the hey were sorry but we just screwed a crap ton of systems namely the launch system, we will now extend everyones warranty and lose a lot of money on returns cause were too cheap to fix the real problem and make a more quality product. After saying all that I still love my 360 :P ). Got a new one going good thus far. Things do break and this is true but they shouldn%26#39;t as often. If i never have to get another well at leat till xbox 360(squared) comes out then ill be fine.

You would have thought that Microsoft would have fixed the design problem with the Elite 360. But they didn%26#39;t. It has the same CPU-to-Motherboard connection as the older 360 models. Therefore, it will suffer from the same ''Three Rings of Death'' problems.The problem is, when the 360 heats up, the motherboard bends. PC motherboard manufacturers place holes all over the motherboard so that you can firmly seat it to the case. Microsoft didn%26#39;t do this. They have only a few placed to mount the motherboard to the case, so the motherboard bends when it gets hot. The problem with this is, the CPU isn%26#39;t properly seated to the Motherboard. So when the motherboard bends, the CPU becomes disconnected, giving you the ''Three Rings of Death''. Guess what Microsoft did to ''fix'' this problem with the Elite? they added more GLUE around the CPU.
Its real easy to set up. You dont need anything extra to play dvds. Mine doesnt overheat, because its on a flat hard surface, dont get an intercooler, they melt the back of 360%26#39;s and they void your warranty. I would get an extra battery pack and a quick charge kit, unless you wanna spend a lot on batteries, the quick charge kit will recharge a battery thats been half used up in about 15 minutes, its awesome. Other than that, you dont really need anything more

He also said I%26#39;d want a fan so I got one of the ''base'' models because he told me the plug-ins were known to fuse to the case. I live in Florida, so even with the air going it%26#39;s not always cool, but is the fan a waste of money?

I am assuming that a ''base'' fan is just a normal fan and not a fan specifically designed for the 360.

You would have thought that Microsoft would have fixed the design problem with the Elite 360. But they didn%26#39;t. It has the same CPU-to-Motherboard connection as the older 360 models. Therefore, it will suffer from the same ''Three Rings of Death'' problems.The problem is, when the 360 heats up, the motherboard bends. PC motherboard manufacturers place holes all over the motherboard so that you can firmly seat it to the case. Microsoft didn%26#39;t do this. They have only a few placed to mount the motherboard to the case, so the motherboard bends when it gets hot. The problem with this is, the CPU isn%26#39;t properly seated to the Motherboard. So when the motherboard bends, the CPU becomes disconnected, giving you the ''Three Rings of Death''. Guess what Microsoft did to ''fix'' this problem with the Elite? they added more GLUE around the CPU.
Its real easy to set up. You dont need anything extra to play dvds. Mine doesnt overheat, because its on a flat hard surface, dont get an intercooler, they melt the back of 360%26#39;s and they void your warranty. I would get an extra battery pack and a quick charge kit, unless you wanna spend a lot on batteries, the quick charge kit will recharge a battery thats been half used up in about 15 minutes, its awesome. Other than that, you dont really need anything more

I was wondering about the fan issue, myself. The guy at the store told me try and keep it flat as opposed to in the upstanding tower position. He also said I%26#39;d want a fan so I got one of the ''base'' models because he told me the plug-ins were known to fuse to the case. I live in Florida, so even with the air going it%26#39;s not always cool, but is the fan a waste of money?

I am assuming that a ''base'' fan is just a normal fan and not a fan specifically designed for the 360.

It%26#39;s made for a 360. The fan is literally a base and fits on what would be the bottom of the console if it were standing upright. It%26#39;s made by Pelican.

I already traded mine in. Crackdown was horrible. Haven%26#39;t looked back since. I%26#39;ve got a review that states why it%26#39;s so horrible, but the long and short is that I had all of the achievements within a week, there%26#39;s no replay value and what%26#39;s there is either boring or broken. The few good ideas that they had were ruined by bad camera or otherwise bad integration. Just yuck.It%26#39;s my opinion and I imagine very many people feel differently, but I think I%26#39;m right and those people are wrong.

I like it but then again its only ok. Feels to much like GTA but good side. I think its still better than GTA because of more weapons and superjumps and such. But yea, sooner or later Im probably going to end up trading it in.

Ive got 3 controllers, 2 extra battery packs, and a quick charge kit. Those were really the only accessories I needed, I spent the rest of my 700 dollar 360 budget on used games on amazon. I got my 360 with 2 controllers, the battery packs, and the quick charge kit brand new for 350.Must have 360 accesorys

You%26#39;ve got to have it plugged in for -- no lie -- like a few days and then it holds a charge for 25-45 minutes. I don%26#39;t know, maybe something%26#39;s wrong with mine but get the Quick Charge and a second controller for good measure. Those are the must-have accessories.The wireless headset%26#39;s also really good, and I%26#39;ve got no complaints with the wi-fi adapter apart from the price, though I%26#39;d still like to have it on a wired network if I could help it. But you%26#39;ve got to be on a really strong network to use the adapter. I usually have the best signal of anyone in my games despite being wireless. Wicked sick, huh?
i got three controllers, one is black (i love it) :), three rechargeable batteries, two play n charge kits and wireless headset its a must have, the xbox live camera: you can video chat, also put your face on your character on rainbow six vegas and its perfect to send funny pics to friends, if youre into racing and you love your 360 so much get the wireless steering wheel 8)

Meh, more than two controllers is a waste on this console, aside from split-screening Gears of War etc. it%26#39;s just not the system for MP unless it%26#39;s over XBL (when company%26#39;s over it%26#39;s practically impossible to pry my Wii-mote%26#39;s out of their hands but to this date I have not had one request to ''sesh the %26#39;box''). Having said that after this new update I%26#39;d like to pick up that controller keyboard attachment for messaging. Aside from that just pick up a wireless headset and you%26#39;re good to go. I only have two controllers cause I bought the ''360 controller for Windows'' which also works for 360- which might I add is the best controller for PC IMO.
